I had the opportunity to demonstrate color pencil for the Mountainside Art Guild in February. I loved my time with this warm and welcoming group! And as I worked I found mysellf making comments such as "this is such fun!" and "I love this subject, he is so cute!" It's such a wonderful thing when you get to do something you are so passionate about!!
And March leads into so many positive vibes for me; anniversaries, the beginning of springtime, birthdays, and this year Easter as well. I hope you are as excited about March as I am!

I just hung a collaborative show with my husband Andreas at the Lakewood Arts Council Gallery called "My Home Town". This is a beautiful collection of our photography, drawings, and paintings illustrating some highlights from our home towns. Come help us celebrate the show on Friday, February 2nd at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In February I will also be part of the Art From The Heart Mini Show at the College Hill library with several new mini sized artworks as well as prints, cards and some other small artwork items.
And I also have the privilege to share some fun technique with the Mountainside Art Guild mid February with a Demo after their general meeting. What a fun February full of art!!

The new year has taken off at a fast pace already! I am the guest artist this month at the Blue Nest Coffee Shop in Lakewood on Youngfield. Not only is this a lovely space for art it is also a cozy and friendly place to meet with friends and have a delicious treat!
In February my awesome husband Andreas and I will exhibit at the Lakewood Arts Council together with the theme "My Home Town." This will be a fun combination of American and European images representing the depth of our roots within the heart.
Classes took off in a great way as well. Several more ahead this month so jump in and get your creativity going!

End of year exhibits are hung and we are in the final stretch -- on our way to 2024! Check out current exhibits at this link. The Artcentric exhibit is beautiful as is the Wheat Ridge Library Exhibit of 49 pieces of art by 8 artists. Both exhibits showcase artworks priced at $200 or less.
In December I rarely teach but this year I have one more color pencil class coming up on the 4th through the Arvada Apex. If you receive my newsletter you will note there is also a Zoom Drawing Hour this month on a Monday night and this one is a freebie. The link is in the newsletter and material list is on the Classes/Workshops page.
And I am excited and proud to be joining the Wheat Ridge Cultural Commission! I am looking forward to being part of a team who is bringing many opportunities to our creative community to grow and connect with businesses and residents!

A lot going on as we head into November!
If you are interested in a portrait or other commissioned work (gifting for the holidays especially) now is the time to contact me. I stop taking new commission orders for the holidays beginning December 1st. Contact me by calling, texting or emailing (720.339.7197 or sdavis@adsnart.com).
There is an explosion of class offerings in November. There's still room in the Zoom drawing hour this weekend (sketching Halloween themed animals). I am teaching the regular two Color Pencil Classes on the first and third Tuesday of the month and will offer another Acrylic Abstracts Class in the last week of November. But I will also hold classes at the Arvada Apex on Wadsworth Blvd. for those who find this more convenient. Two Color Pencil Classes and a 'Drawing Pets in Color' class to help you learn the techniques to draw your own pet portraits.
And don't forget the Drawing Hour On Zoom - in November we will focus on a seasonal theme sketching Thanksgiving favorites. This is a great way to get yourself into a habit of sketching - something that often gets left by the wayside as we focus on painting or working with colorful mediums.
And there are exhibits coming up in November and December as well. Check back in the weeks ahead for more info on these.

This month I entered two shows in the area. I was honored to receive a few awards; a merit award for 'Summer Drifting' and an honorable mention for 'Sly Friend' in the Paletteers Members' Show at College Hill Library in Westminster, and first place for 'Winter Fun' in the Artists' Choice Exhibit at the Lakewood Cultural Center sponsored by the Lakewood Arts Council. Next week receptions will be held for both of these exhibits, for more information click here.
Next week I am offering open studio, a time when you can bring whatever you are working on and create in the presence of other artists. This can be wonderfully helpful if you would like to glean first impressions on your piece, suggestions, ideas, or if you just want to enjoy chatting while you work. I will be setting up a station in the room where participants can take a break to experiment with a different medium for a while. At the first open studio I brought encaustics - we had a great time with this medium. $5 participation fee to help cover the room donation.
And in October I will be offering an Acrylic Abstracts Class where we will focus more on the elements of design. This is both a fun and relaxing class while we play with a very versatile medium. Hope to see you there!

What a fun weekend!! The Carnation Festival was once again wonderful - lots of beautiful artwork, great music, rides, games, shopping, food, and the fabulous Zoppe circus!
And now look forward to more exhibits through the transition of summer to autumn! The Paletteers' member show offers both a mini show and poetry pairing to the larger works. This is such a fantastic show at the College Hill Library through the month of September!
And the Lakewood Arts Council will hang the "Artists' Choice Show" from September 17th through January 5, 2024 at the Lakewood Cultural Center. It is a marvelous show and space!
Notice too that new classes are posted in the far right column. In September we will start classes with a celebration of changing seasons utilizing several fun techniques to create beautiful autumn leaves, and mid month a chance to work on animal textures with a beautiful mountain animal portrait. Watercolor pencil class will highlight bright color melding and cool techniques for aspen trees.
I am still considering a pet portrait workshop in September or October as well as a one hour basic drawing Zoom class. I am still working out the dates as school jumps back into full swing. Check back for updates or subscribe to my newsletter to keep current (see the subscription blurb in the right margin below.)
